Source: NRA-ILA Grassroots Alerts Source: NRA-ILA Hunting and Conservation Updates A New Castle County councilman wants to shoot down an old law that gives the county’s top administrator the power to restrict weapons in the hands of residents during times of emergency. Wednesday, September 30, a new gun law goes into effect. Concealed weapons permit holders will be able to carry concealed handguns into bars and restaurants. As I am writing this, both the Knox County Commission and the Knoxville City Council are about to decide if our community needs to opt out of a provision allowing carry permit holders to carry their weapons in parks. The arguments both for and against are very familiar ones; in fact, they are the same [...] Naples Mayor Bill Barnett expected a hard recoil when he joined Mayors Against Illegal Guns, but the fusillade of angry mail and phone calls startled him. A bill that would require buyers of handgun ammunition to leave thumbprints and detailed personal information with registered ammo sellers, as well as put restrictions on online bullet sales, is sitting on Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s desk. The Supreme Court has clearly ruled that the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution means individuals have a right to own weapons, and the justices have been asked to take up two cases that could broaden that right to include state laws. Starting Wednesday, those carrying concealed weapons are allowed to enter Arizona’s roughly 5,300 establishments licensed to sell alcohol, as long as they don’t drink. The Knox County Commission on Monday voted 13 5 in favor of allowing handgun permit holders to carry their weapons in county parks. |
